Agasthiyar Falls situated near Papanasam in Tirunelveli district in south Indian state Tamil Nadu. The Thamiraparani river which orginates from a lake which is at a distance of 40km from Tirunelveli forms Agasthiyar Falls at Western Ghats and on the southern region of Papanasam. The faith is to take a bath in falls before heading to the temple. The water has medicinal value as it flows through rainforests of Western Ghats and is religiously important and highly respected by locals. It is believed that sins can be solved by drowning in the water. So it is also called ‘Papanasam Falls’. You can either hire an autorikshaw from town or trek about 3km to visit Papanasam Falls. Wildlife animals like Tigers , Panters etc can be found on the way to the falls .During the Tamil month of chittirai the government of Tirunelveli district organise Chittirai Vishnu festival on Tamil new year day. This falls which is visited by devotees and tourists is a major tourist destination.
