Anchuruli Waterfalls is a site that one should not miss to visit. Situated among the beautiful locations of the Western Ghats, the semi-evergreen forests and grasslands are made attractive by the waterfalls. Anchuruli is suitable for trekking, the best trekking points being Nellipara, Kozhikanam, Para Valavu, Edapalayam, Chakkupara, etc. The water that comes from Erattayar River is carried to the lake through a 2-km-long tunnel passing through Erattayar and Anchuruli. The main attraction of Anchuruli Waterfalls is the water gushing through the large circular mouth of the tunnel. This water is used for the Idukki hydroelectric power project. A place lying 3 km away from Kanchiyar Village in Kottayam-Kattappana route in Idukki District, Anchuruli has become a tourist spot now. Anchuruli gifts us with the alluring and bewitching beauty and grandeur of nature. From there, we can have a magnificent view of Idukki Dam. Anchuruli can be reached by bus from Kattappana to Kanchiyar which is on the Kattappana-Kottayam route that runs 9 km away from Kattappana. Anchuruli can be reached also by trekking from Kanchiyar through the forest road. When the level of water decreases in the Idukki reservoir, we can see 5 small hills in the shape of small round bowls (uruli – traditional cookware in South India), this is how it came to be called Anchuruli. The Idukki reservoir that we see from Anchuruli Tunnel is 740 m above sea level.
