Bharathappuzha or Nila which originates from Aanamala in Western Ghats is the second-longest river in Kerala. Bharathappuzha originates as small rivers from different parts of the Western Ghats and flows through Palakad, Trissur, and Malappuram, through the gap in Palakad to the west. Bharathppuzha has an unavoidable presence in the culture of Kerala. The Nila River plays a major role in the cultural life of South Malabar. This is a main source of water in various districts in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The famous Thunjan Parambu, Kerala Kalamandalam, the Navamukunda Temple in Thirunavai, the Thiruvilvamala Temple, the Chamravattom Ayyappa Temple, and the Panniyoor Sri Varahamoorthy Temple are all situated in the bank of Nila River. The places of major literary writers in Malayalam such as Famous shadow puppet artist K. K. Ramachandra Pulavar, MT Vasudevan Nair, M.S. Govindan, VKN, OV Vijayan, M. Sukumaran, and Kavi P. Kunhiraman Nair are also on the bank of Bharathappuzha. Malampuzha, Peechi, Pothundi, Meenkara, Chulliyar, and Valayar dams are located in Bharathapuzha. Bharathapuzha, in a sense, is everything.
