Another attraction of the city is the city square called Dataran Merdeka Square [Independence Square in Merdeka] where the British Flag was lowered after Malaysia got independence.  It has one of the world’s tallest poles.  Opposite to this, Abdul Samad Palace is situated which was the center of British rule and was built in the year 1897.

One of the favorite tourist spots of Malaysian tourists is Little India which has streets throbbing with Indian style of life.  This is the oldest region of Indian immigration.  The Udupi Hotels, handloom shops, etc. look just like the way they are in Indian streets.

Jalan Alor is an unmatched food destination in the heart of the city.  There, we can see and experience a wide street full of restaurants; seats in front of them arranged on the street, the smell of delicious food that makes one feel hungry and the hullabaloo of the people.  Walkway runs through the middle of seats put in front of the restaurants.

People buying different types of hot smoked fishes and crabs covered with masala and arranged on small sticks and enjoying them in the middle of chaos of thousands of people; people canvassing others passing by, showing them menu cards and inviting them to the restaurants; etc. are experiences that can never be forgotten.  These restaurants are a part of the city center, Bukit Bintang.

Another attraction of Bukit Bintang is the 48-storey Berjaya Times Square which is the world’s 5th largest twin-tower building complex.  In this tower, besides star hotel, there are hundreds of restaurants, swimming pools, 9 cinema theaters, largest indoor theme park in Asia, etc, all brought together under one roof.  We can reach inside this tower by taking the monorail in the city.  Bukit Bintang is a wonderful shopping district which includes the central market that includes the towers, souvenir shops with vast array of items, handicraft shops, etc.

Another major attraction of this place is the cooking studio where classes are conducted mainly on how to use cooking utensils in the kitchen and cooking styles of different countries.
Next, we went to Chow Kit Market, the colorful clothes market.

On the side of the streets, there are stalls under different-colored umbrellas creating a world of colors.  Here, we get vegetables, spices, meat, fish, silk clothes, fruits of different countries, mango and seeds of jackfruit from Kerala; there is actually nothing that we cannot get here.

Another popular attraction of the city is the i-City and art museum in the town of Shah Alam.  i-City has lots of shopping malls.  The speciality of this place is that the whole place is made extremely bright with electric lights.  The color patching of malls with different colors is something that should not be missed out.  What we see here is a colorful world.

The art museum offers a storehouse of wonderful sights with 3D pictures and sculptures making it difficult to understand whether they are real or just pictures.  There are city tour buses for touring the city.  We can tour the whole city of Kuala Lumpur and travel one full day with just one ticket.  Travelling through the city is like travelling through the middle of a dense forest, the only difference being that buildings take the place of trees.  We are taken to a world full of 10 – 40 storied buildings in different shapes and colors.

Rest of the tour of Malaysia can be read in the next part.
