Dhobi Khana is situated in the street of Fort Kochi. Vannar community of Tamil Nadu is working in Dhobi Khana. The Dhobi Khana is said to be more than three decades old. When they say that this was a part of Dutch history, or that the history of this was started in the period of King of Cochin, another claim is that the British brought their villages to Kochi. Anyway, supported by the Greater Cochin Development Authority in 1975, the vannis set up a Dhobi Khana in Fort Kochi near Veli. There are 40-45 cubicles on the 3 acres of land. Each cubicle is given to separate family and a pool of water is also given. They work for the people of different levels of society such as hospitals, houses, hotels, hostels, government offices, and some cruize ships. They are using traditional methods for washing the clothes. Dhobi Khana is still a part of Fort Kochi without sinking in the history.
