Lalitha Mahal Palace is the second largest palace in Mysore. It was also a regular destination for the British guests of the Maharaja. The palace was built in 1921 on the instructions of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV of Mysore for the special residence of the then Viceroy. The palace is modeled on St. Paul’s Cathedral. The architecture of the palace reflects the English manor houses and the Italian palazzo. Decorative stained glass has been used extensively to enhance the elegance of the palace. A beautiful view of Chamundi Hill on the left and the city of Mysore in front of the palace can be seen from the balcony. In 1974, it was converted into a heritage hotel. It is now an elite hotel of the Ashok Group of the India Tourism Development Corporation under the Government of India.
