The word comes from the word Pedani which means military formation. Yes, because it celebrates the victory of Goddess Bhadrakali over the demons that come in various shapes and forms. It is actively practiced in Central Kerala, mostly in the Bhagwati or Bhadrakali temples located on the banks of Pampa River.
