I came to hear about Chellarkovil when I reached Kumily after visiting Ramakkalmedu. Only when I enquired about the way to Chellarkovil did I realize that I was being foolish, I should have visited Chellarkovil on the way from Ramakkal. There is no point in saying it now. I decided to go straight to Chellarkovil.
Chellarkovil can be reached by taking Munnar Road from Kumily and taking the right turn at Sixth Mile Junction. It is around 14 km from Kumily. This is a peaceful and beautiful place, famous for ecotourism. From here, we can enjoy beautiful sights of farms in Thamizhakam. Sunrise is absolutely beautiful here. There is a watchtower to view the sunrise. At a distance from here, we can see gorgeous waterfalls. This is a place ideal for strolling. We can see grouse, monkeys, giant squirrel, peacock, etc. can be seen in plenty here.
In Chellarkovil, there is predominantly ayurvedic plantation which offers an opportunity to get acquainted with ayurveda medicines as well as medicinal plants. Besides these, there is spice tour as well.
Bidding goodbye to Chellarkovil, I started for Thekkady via Kumily. Thekkady is an important tourist attraction, famous for its Periyar wildlife sanctuary, national park, etc.
Boating gives an extremely thrilling experience here. The best time to go for boating is from January to April. During this time, since there is no rain, wild animals come out of the forest to the bank of the lake for drinking water. We can see lots of them only if we go for boating in the morning.
In this place, we can mainly see elephant, bison, Bengal tiger, giant squirrel, hornbill, etc, as well as different types of butterflies. For a nature lover, Thekkady is a pleasant heaven.
