Vagamon
This trip is to Vagamon which is one of the 10 tourist spots included in the National Geographic Travels. Vagamon is the beautiful meeting place of tea estates, hillocks, green meadows, hills, fogs and mists. Vagamon is a heaven for bike tourists. It has basically a cool climate. During monsoon season, rain clouds descend down on to the hillocks, and rains; this is heavenly scenery.
When there is fog, even at midday, vehicles can be driven only with lights on. From whichever angle you view, you can enjoy the immense beauty of nature in Vagamon. Vagamon is a hill station spread across the districts of Idukki and Kottayam. The vast area of pine forests is enchanting.
Vagamon is cuddled up by hills like Murugan Hills, Kurishu Hills and Thangal Hills; all the 3 are places of importance for pilgrims. Vagamon has recently become famous for paragliding. The way leading to Vagamon is a festival of beautiful scenery. On one side, there is the deep chasm and on the other, there are hills cut from solid rocks, covered by fog.
The Erattupetta-Peerumedu Highway is cut in solid rock for 6 km. Vagamon is around 39 km from Thodupuzha, 33 km from Pala, 45 km from Kumily and 65 km from Kottayam.
One villain of Vagamon is the lightning and thunder which occurs strongly even when there is no rain. I strolled around Vagamon 1 full day absorbing the beauty of nature and then bid farewell to Vagamon promising to come back again.
