Blavana Ferry – Pooyamkutty
Pooyamkutty is a small village in Kuttampuzha panchayath in Kothamangalam taluk in Ernakulam district in Kerala, India. This scenic village is situated on the bank of Pooyamkutty River, the tributary of Periyar. The river separates the village from the forest area and there is a bridge across the Pooyamkutty river which connects the forest area and village. This bridge will sink during monsoon. It connects to some tribals areas such as Manikandamchal, Vellaramkuth, and Kallelumedu in the forest. Elephants, leopards, macaques, spotted deer, and wild boar are found here. Pooyamkutty is a perfect place for one-day trekking. Trekking through the forest leads us to a beautiful waterfall, tribal areas, and to their huts. You can buy honey and different tribal products from the tribal colony. More than a hundred families live in Pooyamkutty forest. The only way to the city is through the jungle route. Blavana is a place in Pooyamkutty. You need to cross the river to reach Thalavachuppara tribal area from Blavana. The ferry here is known as Blavana Ferry. Two boats are tied together to deliver the necessary things to the tribal area. The Pooyamkutty River is dangerous during monsoon so there will be no ferry service. Blavana is at a distance of 26km from Kothamangalam.
