The enormous Aguada Fort in Goa was once the strongest of the Portuguese forts. This fort was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century on the Sinquerim Beach that overlooks the Arabian Sea. There is a lighthouse here which served as a navigational aid to the ships. This lighthouse is the oldest in Asia and was constructed as a four-storied one back in 1864. The fort is situated on the top of a hill near Aguada-Siolim Road in Sinquerim, Goa. This is the best of the well-preserved Portuguese forts in India. Fort Aguada stands as a memorial of Portugese style of construction and engineering to this day. A part of the fort comprises the Aguada Jail, tourists are not allowed to this part of the fort. Only the other part is open for tourism. It is a favorite spot of photographers. Aguada Fort is open all 7 days in a week from 9.30 in the morning to 6.00 in the evening.
