Cheruthoni is a small town in Idukki. This town is famous because of the Cheruthoni dam which is a part of the Idukki Reservoir. Cheruthoni is a part of Vazhathoppu panchayath in the Idukki district. Mariyapuram, Vathikudi, Konnadi, and Vellathooval are the villages close to the Cheruthoni. This small town is close to the famous Idukki Arch Dam and the Cheruthoni Dam. This is the place where the migrant workers from Tamil Nadu cleared the forest for cultivation in 1940. Later it is found that, this is a perfect place for Hydro Power Projects and the Hindustan Construction Company Constructed dams for the Kerala State Electricity Board. These dams include in the Idukki Reservoir along with Kulamavu Dam. Today, the Idukki Dam, Cheruthoni, and the Kulamavu is also a picnic spot.
