Mathappu – Anamudi
Mathappu is a part of Marayoor, Kanthalur, Perumala, Mannavan Cholakudi and Anamudi Chola National Parks in Idukki district. Mannavan Shola is a rainforest with a cool climate, dense forests and deep terrain. Apart from the Amazon rainforest, Mannavan Shola is the only place where the ancient plant Neerpa grows. Here it grows like coconuts. Mannavan Shola is the largest shola in Kerala. Here, there are dense forests, where man has never set foot. Mathappil is located at a distance of 8 km from Perumala and is surrounded by dense forests. Mathappu includes the Chenkuvara and Kundala areas. The place is windy and cold. Forest Department cottages are available but must be booked in advance. Meals must be brought from Cantt. Or booked with the hut. Mathappu can be reached only by forest licensed jeep or own vehicle with off road drive. If you go in your own vehicle, you have to get a forest permit.
