Dakshineswara Kali Temple is situated near the Vivekananda bridge on the east bank of Hoogly River in Kolkata, India. The temple is dedicated to goddess Kali. It is one of the big, sacred, and respected temples in Kolkata. Dakshineswara Temple is built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni of Janbazar in Dakshineswar, which was a village in the beginning of 1800. It is widely spread over 25 acres of land. This temple of over 100ft is built in the traditional Navaratna style. The idol of this temple is known as Bhavatharini. An idol of Kali standing on the chest of Lord Shiva is placed in a throne of lotus with a 1000 silver petals. A series of 12 Shiva temples are built in the east near the main temple. The inside of these temples are decorated with black and white stones. The idol in each of these temples is a beautiful shiva linga. Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa lived in this temple for a long time. Dakshineswara Kali Temple which is one of the biggest temples in Kolkata is also an architectural treasure. The temple is open from 6 am to 12.30 pm and from 3 pm to 8.30 pm.
