Kottukkal Cave Temple
Kottukkal Cave Temple is a cave temple located in Kottukkal, east of Ayur and Chadayamangalam in Kollam district of Kerala. A.D. The temple is believed to have been built between the 7th and 11th centuries. The temple is now under the Archaeological Survey of India. The temple is built facing east at Ottapara. There are two rooms which are 10 feet long and 8 feet wide in which two Shiva lingams are placed on a pedestal made of stone. It is believed that the rock temple with the Shiva lingam of Nandi and Sri Hanuman dates back to the Pallava period and is contemporary with the coastal temple at Mahabalipuram near Chennai.
