Agumbe is a small settlement in Shimoga District of Thirthahalli Taluka in Malenadu region of the state of Karnataka in India. This place is famous as an abode of natural beauty and tranquility and receives the highest rainfall after Cherrapunji. It is located beautifully in a hilly area of the Western Ghats Mountain Range. The geography, natural sceneries, appropriate conditions for trekking tours, waterfalls, and the sunset point make the place one of the best tourist spots. Agumbe is also well known for its automatic weather station which is the first in India; it was founded by Romulus Whitaker, the Indian wildlife conservationist and herpetologist. This place is also the habitat of the iconic King Cobra, the most poisonous of all the snakes. Agumbe also has a Rainforest Research Station and Medicinal Plants Conservation Area.
