Agasthyamala which is situated about 60km from Trivandrum city is a 1868m tall peak. In addition to the varieties of flora and fauna it is also a place of worship. Agasthyamala is located on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala boarder. Agasthyarkoodam is the second highest peak in kerala. This is a favourite trekking route of those who love trekking. From january to mid-march, the travellers needs to follow a strict guidance to reach the peak of Agasthyarkoodam. Normally for 40 days. In these months, the forest department allow only a restricted trekking and per day only hundred travellers are allowed to enter. Agastyamala Biosphere Reserve is one of the newly added sets of UNESCO world network of Bioshpere Reserve in march 2016. The starting of trekking route is Bonacaud.
