The temple at Thiruvannamala which is one of the largest temple of south India is situated at the bottom of the Annamalai hills in Thiruvannamala city in Tamil Nadu, India. The main structure of the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Annamalayar temple is one of the Shiva’s five temples basically known as ‘Panchabhutha temple’. This 25 acres wide ancient temple have towers on four sides. Eastern tower is called Rajagopuram. This 66m long tower have 11 floors. This is one of the tallest temple towers in India. Vallala Maharaja Gopuram and the Kili Gopuram are the other towers in Annamalaiyar temple. This was built in the 9th century. It was built by Chola Kings based on the inscription on the place. Unlike the way up to the hill’s view point through the road on the rear of the temple along crowded small homes, the way leading to the view point atop the Arunachala hill on the rear of the temple is very laborious. Hiking up the hill with cramped steps leads one to the view point on the top. The view from there is bewitching and irresistible. On one side there is the Thiruvannamalai city like scattered shiny pebbles all over below, and on the other side, stands Arunaleshwara Kshetra Gopuram with such pride and marvel. Annamalaiyar view point is the view of Annamalaiyar temple tower from Annamalai hills. From a particular spot you can see all the towers and that was an amazing sight. You can also enjoy the wonerful view of temple along the way to Virupaksha Cave and Skandashrama.
