Putrajaya
Putrajaya (English translation is “Princes’ Success,” Putra meaning son and Jaya meaning success) is Malaysia’s latest official federal territory after Kuala Lumpur and Labuan and is the administrative centre/capital of the federal government of the country. The city of Putrajaya is famous as being a meticulously planned one. Also known as the “intelligent garden city,’ it is a typical example of a metropolis that is ahead of its time. Some of Malaysia’s biggest businesses run here. From Kuala Lumpur, the seat of the Malaysian Government was shifted to Putrajaya due to the fact that Kuala Lumpur was overcrowded and cramped up. However, Kuala Lumpur is still the official capital with the parliament and Sultan’s home being there and is still the financial and commercial centre. Both Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur are located in Peninsular Malaysia or West Malaysia. Putrajaya is where the Prime Minister’s office and the bureaucratic agencies are. It was Mahathir bin Mohamad ‘s futuristic vision which led to the development of Putrajaya. A number of monuments and public buildings are situated here. The office of the Prime Minister – Perdana Putra, the Prime Minister’s official residence – Seri Perdana, the Deputy Prime Minister’s official residence – Seri Satria, Palace of Justice, Finance Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Ministry – Wisma Putra, Melawati National Palace, Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Heritage Square, Putra Mosque, Istana Darul Ehsan, etc. are just a few of them.
