Peechi Dam
Peechi Dam is a picturesque dam situated at Peechi village near Thrissur. Peechi Dam is an earthen-dam and spans a gross area of 3200 acres. The main motive for the construction of this dam was to generate hydroelectricity and supply the water for irrigation & domestic purposes to villagers. Peechi Dam is famous for its alluring surroundings that catch the sight immediately.Close to the dam, Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary is located and it another major tourist attraction in the region. Built across the Manali River, the Peechi Dam was built in 1959. Ikkanda Warrier (1890-1977), the first Prime Minister of the then independent state of Kochi, India, was the architect of Peechi Dam.
