Temple of Tooth is the famous Buddha temple in Kandy city in Srilanka. The relic of Buddha’s tooth is placed in this temple. It is located near to the royal palace complex. Hemamali princess and her husband Dantha prince shifted this tooth to Srilanka without getting into the hands of enemies, and the king of Srilanka Sirimeghavanna built a temple and placed that tooth there. From the ancient period, it is believed that, those who have the relic has the right to rule. Temple of Sacred Tooth is surrounded by beautiful gardens. This temple with a white and red roof is beautifully decorated. The tooth is placed in a chamber with 2 tiers. There are ivory in front of the sanctum. The wall in the entire complex is white painted stone walls. The temple spread on hectares has other tourist destinations. They are the museum, the Royal Garden, the Royal Palace, the Ambience Hall, the Mahamalua, the meditation grounds, the crescent stone, and the lake. The festival which is conducted to respect and worship the Buddhas tooth is a 10 day festive known as Esala Perahera. It is in the month of July-August. This is the largest Buddhist festival in the world. The perfect time to visit this temple is from 5 pm to 7 pm from Monday to Saturday. Temple will be open from 5.30 am to 8 pm.
