Golden Cave Temple
The famous Golden Cave Temple is situated in the Dambulla, almost in the middle of Sri Lanka. It is on the Colombo-Candy route. A golden Buddha statue of 10ft wide and 20ft high, is on the top of the three-floored building at the entrance of Golden Temple. There are about 100 steps in the side of the building to the top. On the top, the Golden Cave Temple is located in five cave beneath the vast rock. The Golden Temple is a complex with 157 statues including Buddha statues, statues of Buddhist disciples, statues of God. The rock has been carved into five vast caves. The history of Buddha is written in Brahmi script in front of the first cave. In the second cave, a 14m long statue of Buddha, in the form of Buddha lying with the head on one hand, is carved on the rock, and several other statues of Buddhist disciples and Lord Vishnu are engraved in seated and standing manner. The second cave is the biggest cave with a total of 54 statues including 14 standing Buddha statues, 40 seated Buddha statues. Golden statue of Buddha and other statues of disciples are there in the fourth and fifth caves. It is open from 7 am to 7 pm. The entry fee is 1500 Sri Lankan rupees per person.
