Gavi Village
Gavi is a village in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, India. Gavi village is a part of Seethathode Panchayath in Ranni Taluk. Gavi is part of the Periyar Tiger Reserve.More than 280 families live in KFDC’s laiams in Gavi. Villagers live on forest land and work in KFDC’s cardamom plantations and eco-tourism projects for their livelihood.A majority of families in Gavi are Sri Lankan Tamilians. Tamilians, who had gone to Sri Lanka earlier, were brought back to India first as part of an agreement signed between the India and Sri Lanka governments in 1964. From the 1970s, at least 700 Sri Lankan Tamil families had been staying here. Later, many of them left to other parts like Vandiperiyar, Vallakadavu, Kollam and Tamil Nadu for better living conditions.
