Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the first tricolor on the free Indian soil of Andaman on December 30, 1943 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Long before India gained independence, Subhash Chandra Bose declared the island independent of the British rule. The place where Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the flag is today a monument. The monument is located in Port Blair, headquartered in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
