Located on the banks of the River Tungabhadra in Bellary District of Karnataka, Hampi was an important center of the Vijayanagara Empire. Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hampi is also known as the City of Ruins. Hampi was a wealthy, rich and magnificent city near the Tungabhadra River. In 1565, the Sultanate’s forces captured, plundered, and destroyed Hampi.
