Tripunithura is a region in the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India and an integral part of the Kochi metropolitan area. In the state administrative structure, Thrippunithura is part of the Ernakulam District in the state of Kerala. Thrippunithura was the capital of the erstwhile Kingdom of Cochin. The descendants of the Cochin royal family still live here. The Hill Palace situated near Thripunithura was the palace of Maharaja of Cochin, the ruler of Kingdom of Cochin. Tripunithura is also well known for its historical cultures and worldwide famous because of Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple and the annual festival Vrishchikoltsawam that takes place at the temple. Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple is one of the Famous temples in Kerala, situated in Tripunithura. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, worshipped in the form of Santhanagopala Murthy. Lord Vishnu is seen here in a sitting posture under the shade of five hoods of Ananthan. This is a unique pose unlike the other Vishnu temples. This deity is Kula Daivam of Cochin Royal family. It is believed that Arjuna of Mahabharatha established this temple. The main festival of this temple is Vrishchikoltsawam which is held every year in the month of November- December. Another festival Athachamayam is held during the Onam festival.The history of the Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple, Kerala dates back to more than ten decades.
