Built in 1612 as a protection from the Dutch and Marathas, Fort Aguada was the most important fortress for the Portuguese. A fresh water fountain inside the castle brought water to the ships. The fort got its name Aguada, meaning water. The crews of the passing ships often visited to fill their freshwater stores. Fort Agawada is a 17th century Portuguese fort located in Goa, India. The fort has a four storey lighthouse.
