The Padmanabhapuram Palace is a magnificent example of Kerala architecture. According to history, it was once the headquarters of Travancore and later the summer residence of the kings of Travancore. Though the palace is located in Tamil Nadu, the staff and property are under the direct supervision of the Government of Kerala. The Padmanabhapuram Palace houses a collection of artefacts and rare artifacts. The carved wooden ceilings on the porch are carved with 90 different flowers, the most famous being the rare horse lamp and the stone chandelier made of granite. Manimalaika is a time-honored system used in the palace. The sound of the bell can be heard for up to three kilometers.
