Gingee Fort is the oldest fort in Tamil Nadu, the place known for its architectural excellence. In olden days the British described Ginegee Fort as the troy of the east. You should visit the fort in the early morning otherwise you can’t be able to bear the sunlight. It is situated in the Viluppuram district in Tamil Nadu. This huge fort spreads over Krishnagiri, Rajagiri, and Chakkiliya Durg hills. It is surrounded by 800ft tall walls. The total length of these walls is 13km. The Chakkiliya Durg Fort is almost in ruins. A majestic seven-stored building can be seen on the right side on the way to the fort, it is known as Kalyana Mahal. Kon kingdom begins to build this fort in the 13th century, then Vijayanagara Empire finished it in the 16th century. Later on this fort was ruled by Mughals, British, and French. The last ruler, the Marathas, left the fort in the 19th century. Now, it is maintained by the Archaeological Department of India. On top of the fort, there is a beautiful temple, watchtower, and one or two cannons. The entry fee is 20 rupees per person, and for foreigns 100 rupees. The fort is open from 9 am to 4.30 pm.
