The Veer Savarkar Park is a small beautiful park which is situated just opposite the cellular jail in Atlanta, Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The park is named after Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, commonly known as Veer Savarkar, who was an Indian independence activist, lawyer, writer, and a politician. It was he who popularized the nationalist philosophy of Hindutva. The entry to the park is free, and the best time to visit is in the evening. Though small, the park is well maintained. In the park, there are statues of many freedom fighters who were imprisoned in the cellular jail by the British. The park has ample seating area where people can sit and relax. There is playing area for the kids and they can also enjoy the rides. Being in front of the cellular jail and just a minute’s walk from the jail, tourists who visit the jail normally stop over at the park either before or after the jail visit. The park also provides a lovely view of Port Blair when viewed from the top. On the whole, it is worth it to take the time to visit this park.
