Bakreshwar Hot Spring
Bakreshwar is a beautiful place renowned for its hot water springs. There are several hot springs here, the temperatures varying from 42 degrees to 65 degrees. The name of each hot spring is personalized. Hot water springs have religious as well as scientific importance. Full of minerals, the water of the spring has great healing powers. Most of them have temperatures above 60 degrees. Each stream has its own tale to tell. Agni kunda, one of the hot springs in Bakreshwar, stores water at a temperature above 200 F. It is believed that one who bathes in one of these hot water springs will get spiritual liberation from all the sins he has done during his lifetime. Within a short distance from the town is located the Bakreshwar Thermal Power Station and Bakreshwar Thermal Power Plant Township of West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited. You can also see the Shiva Temple near the hot spring. It is one of the 51 Shakti Pithas which are dedicated to Adi Shakti and one of the major pilgrim centers of Hindus. The temple stands on the banks of River Bakreshwar and Paaphra River. Apart from Bakreshwar Shiva Linga, there are 108 Shiva lingas and 7 hot water springs in this place. The Shakti Pitha is in the Birbhum District of West Bengal and is 240 km away from Kolkata. From Howrah, Suri or Ahmedpur Station can be reached by Mayurakshi Express, and from there, it is 24 km or Bakreshwar -Bolpur 45 km, 65 km from Rampurhat by road.
