Carver Marsh Monument – Valparai
Carver Marsh Monument is located in the viewpoint on the 32nd turning in Pollachi – Valparai road in the hill station Valparai in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. He was the first person to do tea plantation in 50 acres in Valparai. This plantation is still thriving. In 1890, W Wintle and Nordan bought land from the Madras state government under British rule. Wintle decided to plant tea and coffee in this land. Carver Marsh, an experienced planter, made tea plantations for Wintle with a salary of 250 rupees. Carver Marsh is the first person to bring tea to Neelagiri. A statue was built near to the Paralai Tea Estate in the memory of Carver Mash. It is the only statue of an English Planter in Tamil Nadu. Today no one is considering that this place has historical importance. Anyways, Carver Marsh looks after his tea plantation in the most beautiful place in Valparai.
