By The Mullaperiyar dam was built in 1895 in Kerala on the River Mullayar and its tributary, the Periyar. The Periyar National Park in Thekkady is located around the dam’s reservoir. The Mullaperiyar Dam is a gravity dam made with concrete prepared from limestone and surkhi, and faced with rubble. According to a report by the Kerala Forest Research Institute, the protected area surrounding the dam and reservoir is classified as a biodiversity hot spot.
