Chamundeswari Temple is situated on top of Chamundi Hills which is at a distance of 13km from Mysore in Karnataka, India. The temple and the real temple tower is built by the Hoysala rulers in the 12th century and the tower was renovated by the Vijayanagara rulers in the 17th century. It is built in the Dravidian style of architecture. Chamundi Hills and the Chamundeswari Temple is the tilak of the Mysore, the palace city. Chamundeswari, or Goddess Durga has been worshiped with respect by the Mysore Maharajas for centuries. The Chamundi tour, is a great trekking experience along with the visit to the Chamundeswari temple. A statue of Mahishasura with a serpent in one hand and a sword in the other build outside the temple. Different forms of Goddess Durga are engraved on the doors. The sanctum has a statue of goddess Chamundeswari. You can see Mysore Palace, Karanji Lake, other small temples, and an amazing view of Mysore from the peak of Chamundi hills. The visiting and the worship timings are from 7.30 am to 2 pm, from 3.30 pm to 6 pm, from 7.30 pm to 9 pm. The time of abhisheka is from 6 am to 7.30 am and on Friday it will be from 5 am to 6.30 am. At 12.30, devotees can have the free food in the temple known as Dasoha. You can travel to Chamundi from Mysore through roadways or else there is Karnataka State Corporation bus every 20 minutes. Chamundeswari Temple is famous not only in India but also in foreign countries.
