Banasura Sagar Dam
Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India is the second-largest dam in Asia. This dam is situated on the foot of Banasura hill in Karamanathodu River, which is a tributary of the Kabini River. Banasura Dam is at a distance of 21km from Kalpetta town in Wayanad district in Kerala. The nearest city is Kozhikode at a distance of 103km. Banasura Sagar Dam is a famous tourist destination in Wayanad. The trekking to the beautiful Banasura hills will be a great experience. The nature park having traditional tree swings near the dam makes children happy. To enjoy the views of the reservoir and fishing there are boating facilities. You can either choose the speed boat or pedal boat. Banasura Hill Resort at a distance of 20km from the dam is Asia’s largest earth resort. The best season to visit is from November to May. You can also visit the near temples like Sri Ayyapa Mandir, Sri Nath Mandir and Nirur Shiva Mandir.
