Pooyamkutty is famous for a hydroelectric project by KSEB. A place blessed with natural beauty situated on the banks of Pooyamkutty River, a tributary of Periyar. The nearest town is Kothamangalam, 27 km from Pooyamkutty. Manikanthamchal is completely farmers and Vellaramkuth tribals. Pooyamkutty is connected to the town by Manikanthamchal bridge which is considered a great boon to the farmers living in Manikanthamchal, Vellaramkuth and Kallelumedu.
